Problems with Eyes / Treatment of Eyes

The vision is one of our 5 senses. Around 80 % of all sense impressions are processed by the vision. The vision picks up on impressions from both close and distant objects, which separates this sense from the others. Information about the form, colour, distance, size, and movement is processed by the eyes, the optic nerve, and the optic centre in the brain. It is hardly questionable that this sense is essential for us humans.

Unfortunately, many people suffer from problems with their vision. Short-sightedness, long-sightedness, and astigmatism are all common conditions these days. Many also suffer from cataract or glaucoma, although these diseases mostly occur with the elderly.

Short-sightedness means that you are unable to see things that are far away clearly. This is due to the eyeballs being too long, or that the cornea is too curved. Long-sightedness means that the you are unable to see things that are close to you clearly. The reason for this is usually, that the cornea is not curved enough, or that the eyeballs are too short. If you suffer from astigmatism, it is most likely because the eyeballs has got an oval shape, whereas they should have been more round. It is possible to suffer from astigmatism combined with short-sightedness or long-sightedness.

These days it has become possible to treat short-sightedness, long-sightedness, and astigmatism, and thereby to achieve optimal vision without the use of contact lenses or glasses. Cataract and glaucoma can also be treated with eye surgery.
