Acne (Pimples)

Problems with Acne (Pimples) / Treatment of Acne (Pimples)

Acne (Acne Vulgaris), commonly referred to as pimples, is a problem for many people. Acne strikes most teenagers during puberty, but it usually fades gradually, as they enter their 20's.

For some people, however, the acne does not seem to go away. It is estimated that 5 % of all persons at the age of 45 still suffer from acne. As acne is most commonly situated in the face, it can cause severe social problems for those who suffer from it.

Acne occurs when male hormone stimulates the production of fat in the skin, via the tallow glands. The fat is then ejected through the hair follicles. Bacteria that live on the skin consume the fat and create an infection, which will then show as acne.

Squeezing the pimples will not work against acne. On the contrary, this only increases the risk of scarring. Bad hygiene or other external factors are not really the cause of acne, but they can worsen the problem. Washing the skin with soap is not sufficient either. Instead, there are several medicaments which can control the acne. It is also possible to reduce acne with laser treatment of the skin.
